Hopefully by now you have heard that our AGM is taking place on March 17th … but, what exactly is an Annual General Meeting, or AGM?
It’s essentially an opportunity for our members (that’s you!) to give input into how The Alliance of Pro-Life Students works and operates. Any member can submit a motion similar to how you would at your Students’ Union. It is also super important as it is when we elect new directors. Directors serve for three years (we currently have five directors) and they do everything it takes, with the help of a paid employee, our Student Support Officer, to run APS. From managing our finances to our website to supporting students - they do it all.
We are always looking for new directors and volunteers to join us and to continue to build a community of pro-life students across Great Britain so if you are interested please email our CEO on firstname.lastname@example.org. In particular, we are looking to recruit a treasurer - you can take a look at what the role entails here. Being a director not only looks amazing on your CV (you will be a director of a not-for-profit organisation. Wow!) but also gives you the opportunity to shape the pro-life movement here in Britain and have lots of fun along the way (our strat cons are somewhat legendary…).
To ensure you can vote at our AGM you need to be a member. If you aren’t already a member, then click here.
The general format of the evening will include a fantastic piece on Pro-Life Student Activism over the past 50 years. We will also have a Student Support update and Treasurer update before allowing members to have their say in the running of APS and vote in and approve any new directors. The event is free but please register your interest here.
Our Student of the Year and Society of the Year will also be announced! To submit your nominations for Student of the Year, please email email@example.com with the name of your nomination and a short blurb about why you think they deserve the prize!
At the end of the AGM, we all remain in the pub for networking, chat and of course a few pints.
This year’s AGM will be held on 17th February at 7pm in The Tron, 9 Hunter Square, Edinburgh EH1 1QW.
Pro-Life Student Day; Be Empowered
In more exciting news, last year we pioneered our Pro-Life Student Day; Be Empowered in the afternoon before the AGM. It was so successful that we are doing it again!
This is an opportunity for students from across the country to get together and encourage each other as they continue to spread the pro-life message across campuses. We will have inspiring talks, practical workshops and lots of opportunities for students to spend time and get support from one another. We highly encourage anyone that is currently a student, or will be a student in September to come along, whether you are already on a pro-life society exec committee, thinking about it, trying to set up a society or just interested in the pro-life student movement then come along!
If you want any more details then please don’t hesitate to contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org. The event is £5 (which covers dinner) so please grab your tickets here. If you would like help funding travel then please email email@example.com for a sponsorship application.
